Coconut Kennys is a local chain of pizza joints with locations in Bellingham, Burlington, Ferndale, and Sedro Woolley. They serve some of the best deep dish pizza I’ve ever tasted. Just a half block from Trader Joe’s, we’ve gone by this place a few thousand times, but never stopped in until today. Boy, were we missing out! We gauged by the price ($8 for a small) that we’d need two, and then had to take some home. We’d have done better with a small and a salad – the salads looked excellent but also very large though. They serve local craft beer on tap here and have $5 daily special. The table next to us had 5 young guys who ordered 2 of the daily sandwiches each, one to eat there, the other to take home.

A quarter block closer to Trader Joes is the Kulshan Brewing Company. They serve some really nice beers, and have a great patio outside. All the shaded spots were taken so we opted to sit inside which felt light and open and cheery. We ordered a tasting flight of 6 beers, and belatedly realized we’d left our growler back at the RV. No take homes for today!

The thing I like better about breweries than wineries is the feeling that it’s a place to hang out, more like a bar, or a coffee shop. So many come here after work, to enjoy a beer and be around people while they catch up on social media.

I keep meaning to keep track of what we sample at each place, either by taking notes or by using one of the myriad apps I’ve installed, but it’s often difficult enough to even remember to take a photo of our flight before we get half way through it!
